Fresh dairy (also referred to as raw dairy) is an outstanding source of nutrients including healthy beneficial bacteria (or probiotics) such as lactobacillus acidophilus in addition to essential vitamins, fats, mineral and enzymes. It is not associated with any of the health problems surrounding pasteurized dairy such as rheumatoid arthritis, skin rashes, diarrhea and eczema. Even people who have been allergic or have a sensitivity to pasteurized dairy for many years can typically tolerate and may even thrive on natural dairy. Pasteurized cow's milk is the number one allergic food in the USA. It has been associated with various symptoms and illnesses including tooth decay, heart disease, cancer, autism, allergies, colic in infants, acne, skin rashes, infertility and much more!
Organic, grass-fed/pastured meats and organic, free-range eggs are highest in omega 3 essential fatty acids and they are amazingly delicious! Our Real Foods program brings frozen organic beef, chicken, pork, wild salmon and an array of fresh, raw dairy products to Long Island from Paradise Pastures (formerly known as Eshelman Run Farm) located in Amish Country in Paradise, PA. Orders arrive bi-weekly (twice per month).
The TRUTH about pasteurization...
Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamins C, B12 and B6, and kills beneficial bacteria, which promotes the growth of pathogens. Have you ever noticed that fresh milk left out will sour naturally, but pasteurized milk will quickly rot? This is because the beneficial bacteria in the natural milk are necessary to keep the growth of the putrefactive bacteria under control. Then there is the added issue of the many antibiotics, pesticides and growth hormones used in commercially raised dairy cows. Commercial cows are raised on grains, not on grass. Grains are not normally a part of cow's diet and will completely change the composition of the nutrients in the milk!
It just tastes BETTER...
Fresh dairy and grass-fed, organic meats simply
taste BETTER! As with any food, fresher is ALWAYS better and this
applies to dairy and meats as well. Fresh milk is creamier and much
tastier than pasteurized milk! Fresh meat is healthier and free of
growth hormones and antibiotics than the processed, low-quality meats
you find in a typical grocery store. REAL FOODS are safe for your whole
family to enjoy!
Organic, Grass-Fed Dairy
Our whole milk, cheese and other dairy products are from our twenty-five Jersey and part Jersey cows. Jersey cows give less milk than conventional Holstein cows, but their milk is more nutrient dense. Our towels are pastured except during the winter, during storms, or while milking. Our cows eat only grass, grass hay, grass haylage, small supplemental amounts of organic corn and mineral. We do not feed our Jersey cows corn silage, soybeans or soy products. Our milk is tested regularly for harmful bacteria and somatic cell count. Our cows have been tested for TB and will also be tested for other diseases such as Brocilloses and Yonies in the near future. We do not expect to have any counts test positive for any diseases, but are just doing this for your assurance. Should any cows test positive, they will be removed from our herd and sold immediately.
Grass-Fed Beef
Paradise pastures, grass fed beef are fed only pasture grass and hay, producing high-quality nutrient dense meats. At harvest our beef is then dry aged for two to three weeks for the best flavor and tenderness. Grass quality is at its best during the spring and fall seasons. Therefore we harvest most of our beef at the end of those seasons. Beef is available year-round with quantity discounts at harvest time in late fall and late spring.
Pastured Pork
Our hogs are raised on pasture and supplemented with skimmed milk, corn and minerals. Pork is available year-round with quantity discounts in fall and early winter.
Free Range Eggs
Our hens are free ranged on pasture from April through November, eating a buffet of grass, seeds and bugs - supplemented with grain and minerals. During the winter, the hens are loosely housed inside on a clean, bedded pack and fed hay, grain and minerals. We do not use artificial lighting to keep our hens laying during the winter. Therefore, they hens follow the natural cycle - laying heavily during the spring and summer when the wild birds are laying their eggs and slowing down during the fall and winter when the days are shorter.
Pastured Meat Chickens
Our meat chickens are raised on pasture in small bottomless pens and are moved to fresh grass daily. They eat grass, bugs, grain and minerals. We only raise meat chickens during the summer months when we can have them outside. Chicken is available from June, when we harvest the first chickens of the year until we run out. Next summer, we hope to raise enough meat chickens to last all winter.
Pastured Turkeys
Our turkeys are raised on pasture during the summer and fall. Their diet is basically the same as the chickens except our turkeys eat a greater portion of grass and less grain and mineral.
